The old photo displayed at the bottom is Church Butte which the pioneers passed by today. It was known that they would pass by it. Some of the journals mentioned it. . . some didn't. It got its name from earlier emigrants who thought it looked like a cathedral. It is said that these early people held religious services at the site when they came through.
Many journals mentioned how dusty and dirty it was going through here. The road below Church Butte in bottom photo shows how much dust they had to travel through. Wilford Woodruff said, "Man and beast, harness and wagons, all were covered with dust."
The pioneers didn't take a break and pushed on to get to better grounds to camp finally arriving again and finding water and food for the animals.
