"Sunday [ ] held prayer meeting and partook of the sacrament [ ] counciled together and concluded to send on most of the wagons in the morning and the rest remain with Brigham till he recovered so he could travel"
Norton Jacob:
"Sunday 18th [ ] a severe white frost this morning but the vegetation here is of such a hardy nature that the frost do's seem to injure it [ ] President Young is verry sick this morning & President Kimbal called the brethren together & proposed that we hold a prayer meeting at 10 o'clock & humble ourselves before the Lord that we may obtain power with him to turn away sickness & disease from our midst [ ] all were requested meet punctually at the sound of the Bugle but John Norton manifested a spirit of contention with the Brethren & instead of attending meeting went to bed [ ] we had a good meeting [ ] Br Woodruff said that the Devil was constantly striving to hinder our progress & thwart the purposes of God & now by causing the President to be sick hinder our getting through in time to return to our families this fall [ ] the meeting was opened by Bishop Lewis [ ] President Kimbal proposed that the camp go forward tomorrow morning & overtake the other company & go into the valley the other side of the mountain & proceed immediately to put all our seeds into the ground while a few waggons should tarry here until the President should regain his health sufficient to be able to travel [ ] Doct. Richards & Woodruff approved the plan posed by Br Heber [ ] Willard Richards then moved that we start at an early hour tomorrow morning which was seconded & carryed unanimously [ ] the meeting then adjourned to meet again at the sound of the Bugle to Break Bread, [ ] met according to adjournment & received some good instruction from Br Heber & partook the sacrement [ ] Br Heber remarked that the Lord had heard & answered our prayers for when they had washed & anointed him he fell into a sweet sleep & awoke much refreshed"

"Sunday 18th [ ] we had a prayer meeting in camp remembering before the Lord the case of the Prest. & the sick in camp and also in the meeting for breaking bread and instruction and exhortation [ ] we had an excellent meeting. The Holy Spirit was upon us and faith seemed to Spring up in every Bosom [ ] in the afternoon The President who had been nigh unto Death was very sensibly Better and the effects of the Prayer of the Brethren were visable throughout the camp"
